Brokering Success Release Webinar

December 1, 2014

On Tuesday, December 2, join us for the release of Brokering Success, a Mowat Centre report on improving skilled immigrant employment outcomes through strengthened government-employer engagement.

Poor employment outcomes for skilled immigrants have long been a problem in Canada. Despite efforts to better integrate new immigrants into Canada’s labour market and to close the gap between the incomes of newcomers and their Canadian-born peers, skilled immigrants continue to experience higher levels of unemployment.

This paper identifies four key levers available to governments to improve engagement and outcomes. It makes practical recommendations to governments and employers with a focus on:
• adapting to local needs;
• supporting smaller enterprises;
• building a common language around evidence, skills, and objectives; and
• promoting long-term stability of programs, services, and building sustained initiatives.

Speakers
• Matthew Mendelsohn, Director, Mowat Centre
• Ratna Omidvar, Executive Director, Global Diversity Exchange, Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University

Moderator
• Joan Andrew, Public Servant in Residence at Ryerson University, member of the Editorial Board at the Mowat Centre, TRIEC Board Member
