July 8, 2015

The Mowat Centre is pleased to announce two senior appointments to lead the Centre’s Energy and Not-For-Profit research hubs.

Executive Director, Mowat Energy

Paul Sommerville is Mowat’s new Executive Director of Mowat Energy, the Centre’s research hub providing independent, evidence-based research and analysis on systemic energy policy issues facing Ontario and Canada.

Paul brings extensive knowledge, experience and leadership in regulatory, corporate and private law practice to the Centre’s energy research hub after a career in Ontario’s energy sector. Paul was Executive Vice-President, Chief Regulatory Officer and General Counsel for Toronto Hydro, and was also a member of the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), where from 2001 he presided over numerous regulatory proceedings involving the electricity and natural gas sectors. In 2012, he was recognized with the 2012 Medal of the Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators (SOAR). Paul has held senior positions in the private sector, including General Motors Canada.

“Paul is a widely respected executive leader in the energy sector in Ontario,” said Mowat Centre’s Acting Director William Forward. “The deep knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and policy environment he brings to the Centre’s research agenda for energy will provide incredible leadership as we turn our attention to emerging trends facing the sector.”

Executive Lead, Mowat NFP

Lisa Lalande will be taking up the position of Executive Lead for Mowat NFP, the Centre’s research hub that provides evidence-based research and analysis on systemic issues facing the non-profit sector in Canada, with a particular focus on Ontario.

Lisa is an experienced not-for-profit sector leader with almost 20 years’ experience in strategic planning, program development, communications and change management, and fund development. There, she led a cross-functional team in expanding the association’s domestic and international homebuilding activities, diversifying funding models and partnerships, establishing impact measurement approaches, and strengthening the Canadian association’s infrastructure.
