An Analysis of National and International Best Practices
In 2017, the International Organization for Standardization initiated an international discussion on the potential development of national or international standards for the sharing economy, and identified 10 principles to guide such work. This report identifies and summarizes innovative national and international best practices, as well as challenges, in incorporating these principles.
In 2017, the ISO organized a workshop as a first step to initiate an international discussion on the potential development of national or international standards for the sharing economy. This led to the creation of the workshop document, IWA 27:2017 – Guiding principles and framework for the sharing economy, which identified 10 guiding principles for the sharing economy. These include: integrity; transparency; accountability; accessibility and inclusion; responsiveness; health, safety and environment; confidentiality, privacy and security; capacity; competence; and continual improvement.
To analyze how these principles can be incorporated in practice, the Mowat Centre conducted a jurisdictional scan to identify innovative national and international best practices, as well as challenges in incorporating the 10 guiding principles. This report provides a summary of this research work.
